Librarian

What SNH does is really important to me. In fact, I've worked as a countryside ranger before - and volunteered on nature reserves as a hobby. Now, I get to contribute to the care of our natural heritage every day. It's tremendously fulfilling.

I'm primarily responsible for managing our library book stock - purchasing, cataloguing, classifying, that kind of stuff. Knowledge and information management is where my talents really are best applied. I find it both challenging and interesting - especially when I manage to resolve the information needs of demanding customers. The people I work with are dynamic, like-minded and hard working people. I supply them with the resources they need to do their jobs better - and Scotland's natural heritage benefits. Everyone wins.

And of course, because my job's all about knowledge, I love the opportunities working here gives me to learn more. Especially from my colleagues - there are so many chances to meet people and find out about their areas of work.
